OUR SERVICES
INITIAL ASSESSMENT
Your initial assessment is a review of photos and any relevant information such as dimensions and where and when it was acquired to assess authenticity and potential value. A verbal response will be provided, along with a recommendation or not to proceed with appraisal. A site visit might be recommended if photos are inadequate for accurate assessment or unobtainable. There is no set limit to the number of items that may be included in the initial assessment.
COMPLETE APPRAISAL
A complete appraisal is a formal, legally written document that analyzes each object by comparing similar examples on the global art market to determine the item’s current value. The appraisal is prepared following guidelines outline outlined by the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). It may be used for insurance, donation, inheritance, or other legal processes.
GETTING STARTED
WITH YOUR APPRAISAL
The first step in the process is to conduct an assessment of your Asian art or Asian antique piece(s). Photos may be emailed to your appraiser. In some situations, an in-person visit may be preferable.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT
OUR APPRAISING PROCESS
An assessment is an informal evaluation that provides a general overview of your item’s characteristics. It’s perfect for those who want a quick, expert opinion on their piece without formal documentation.
To better understand an item’s potential value, origin, and significance. This usually includes a verbal estimate based on a visual inspection.
To better understand the history and value of a piece before deciding on a full appraisal. It can be challenging to ascertain authenticity because Asian antiques were reproduced, which is why it’s essential to use an appraiser who can spot the subtle differences.
A less formal process could be about half the cost of an appraisal but does not include an official valuation by Baker Appraisers.
An appraisal is a formal, in-depth evaluation that provides an official written report detailing market value, provenance, and historical context. This service is often required for selling, insuring, or estate planning.
To determine the fair market or replacement value of an antique or art piece for legal, financial, or insurance purposes. Includes thorough research, documentation, and professional analysis with a detailed written report.
